Ingredients

Matcha Latte
  • 1 tsp matcha powder about 2g
  • 60 ml hot water 70–80°C
  • 200 ml oat milk or whole dairy milk
  • 1-2 tsp honey or maple syrup optional
  • 1 splash vanilla extract optional

Equipment

  • fine mesh sieve
  • small bowl
  • bamboo whisk or small whisk
  • small saucepan
  • milk frother
  • mug

Method

  1. Sift the matcha powder into a small bowl using a fine mesh sieve to remove any clumps.
  2. Add about 15ml of the hot water and whisk into a smooth paste.
  3. Add the remaining hot water and whisk vigorously in a W or M motion for 20–30 seconds until lightly frothy.

  4. Heat the milk until steaming but not boiling, then froth until a light foam forms.
  5. Pour the matcha into a mug, top with the frothed milk, stir in honey, maple syrup or vanilla if using, and serve immediately.

Notes

Use water below boiling point to reduce bitterness and always sift the matcha before whisking for the smoothest latte. Serve immediately after frothing the milk.
